I have no idea why I call this style of 1990’s techno “British Hooligan Techno”. But all I see infront of me is white British Adidas wearing working class guys on ecstasy dancing in big green fields. But the album I mainly associate this group with, Interspecies Communication is more of a spiritual journey that much like their 1998 movie takes you on a journey around the globe to people who doesn’t live like we in the west do.
This is one of my all-time favorite “pump-myself-up” tracks. It’s simply amazing in both the Mad Cobra & Robyns versions. Robyns performance on Letterman show is simply one energy boost of the ages. The lyrics here are not that much to talk about, but the entire feeling of the songs hits the right spots for me.
A Swedish heavy metal band formed 1980 in a small village in the middle of Sweden called Djurås, Gagnef, by Lissa (Anders Lissdaniels), Torben Stenberg, Håkan Göras, Lars Törnblom and Leo (Lasse Lee)….
“Land of Darkness” is the second single out and is a showcase for vocalist Urskogr’s rasped and guttural delivery, filthier than ever but tempered by clean passages, adding elements of both strength and vulnerability which only deepen the overall sense of a looming end. Urskogr from the band explain ….
5/10 … Self released full-length debut from this Swedish band, and it opens up nothing short of amazing with “Fallen Angels” directly after the really cool intro, and I’m pumped, thinking that this will be an awesome ride. But the next track is a slow thing, “The Beast inside of Me” which is really good, but I can’t stop thinking that it’s an anti-climax to put something slow/mid-tempo directly after that explosive start. Well, we will probably then get back on track with the next one, “One by One”. Nope, we go even slower!!! Holy f**k, am I disappointed now. I wanted more of the starter, the track that made me throw myself out on the internet to check if this had a vinyl release. But the record screams back at me … forget that, now we will go into Power Metal ala Helloween mode (a genre that’s not for me at all) and stay there for the rest of the record…..
One early morning in mid-May 1998, police were called to a hotel in Malmö. Several guests have complained about a loud party that never seems to want to put an end to the after-party.
When the patrol opens the door, they are met by total chaos. A large hole has been drilled in the ceiling, someone has sprayed glue over the carpet and the toilet is full of debris. The floor in the corridor is covered with pills and sequins. In the middle of the mess are five disillusioned musicians in their 20s. Some of them are drawn with lines on the face. It is reminiscent of war paintings.
Melodic Heavy Metal band from Hoting, a small town in Jämtland in the northern parts of Sweden. Vocalist Matti Norlin was only 13 years old on this recording. The band only released one 7″ before changing their name to Charity and went to a more melodic hard rock style…
In Sweden, the word for the pastry chocolate balls, have been called ”negroballs” (negerbollar) since the first half of 1900’s. The first paper trail of this is an add in a Swedish newspaper from 1918, and in the mid 1950’s it was represented in several cookbooks. Around the late 1990’s more and more voices where […]
56,000 saw them on the spot. More than half a million watched them on television. When “The Big Four” took over Gothenburg, Sweden, the influx of spectators was as total as the dominance of the four bands on the thrash metal scene. Die-hard metal fans booked tickets early on for this year’s biggest metal event […]
The Christian church then selected December 25 because the day of the delivery of Jesus as a method in its enlargement process, wherein it systematically sought to absorb and merge its celebrations with the pagan rites of the numerous transformed peoples.
The Christmas ritual become evolving with the centuries, what we have a good time today may be very distant from those first Christmas, and responds especially to customs originating inside the nineteenth century and to the impact of the consumer society.
9/10 … The first wave of “Swedish Death Metal” came from Stockholm (again, not to be confused with the Gothenburg sound from Swedens other coast), and consisted of the bands Carnage, Morbid and Nihilist, who fragmented later into Entombed, Dismember and Unleashed. Many of these bands used the trademark Tomas Skogsberg/Sunlight Studios “buzzsaw” guitar tone. It was created by using heavily detuned electric guitars (usually C# standard or lower), a maxed out Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal (see YouTube video at the bottom of this page), sometimes in combination with a single guitar through a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal. The originator of this guitar sound was Nihilist guitarist Leffe Cuzner, though it was evolved and altered over the years.
I take it for granted that those people yelling ”Socialism” at everything left of hunting homeless people for sport don’t have the capacity or can concentrate for an article this long, but now that you’re on lockdown, try. Sweden, a country that is the definition of Socialist democracy. If you weren’t so scared of helping […]
The Torsåker witch trials took place in 1675 in Torsåker parish in Sweden and were the largest witch trials in Swedish history. In a single day 71 people (65 women and 6 men) were beheaded and then burned. The trials began when Johannes Wattrangius of Torsåker parish told Laurentius Christophori Hornæus of Ytterlännäs parish to investigate witchcraft in his parish. Ytterlännäs and Torsåker were both in the Diocese of Härnösand of the Lutheran Church of Sweden. Hornæus […]
This goes under “Random things I find interesting”. It is extremely facinating to watch how my town looked 106 years ago. The streets, the buildings, what people where wearing (seems to have been a law that said everyone must wear hats :-)). Places I now know have high-rises here looks like they’re far out on […]
I live in Sweden and today we have midsommarafton as it’s called but we celebrate it with getting together with families and friends, eat traditional food and drink aquavit (a 40% alcohol beverage), we do pick flowers and the girls put some in their hair. We also do dance around the pole dressed in flowers (midsommarstång) you see in the movie. But we don’t sacrifice anything, use psychedelic drugs or eat pubic hair pies 😂
