And if the comedian’s prolific output this month alone is anything to go by, […]

Women in sexual professions have always distinguished themselves from other women, from the mores of the time, by pushing the boundaries of style. The most celebrated concubines and courtesans in history set the trends in their respective courts. The great dames of burlesque — Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee — boasted a signature style on- and offstage, reflecting broader-than-life personalities.
Given that photography was still an emerging technology, an emerging creative medium, when these “working girls” posed for William Goldman in the 1890s at a Reading, Pennsylvania brothel, the entire exercise transcends their initial business liaison. The instantaneous concept of click-and-shoot was still decades away. To be photographed required sitting very still. The women featured in Goldman’s collection obviously caught his eye. Not just anyone is asked to be the subject of artistic documentation.

Thomas Lawrence’s (1769 – 1830) grandest history painting attracted strong reactions. It is dominated by a muscular male figure, naked apart from his sword, helmet and some carefully placed drapery. He is Satan, the rebel angel, who has been sent to Hell. Standing by a lake of fire, he summons his followers. The subject is […]
The Fallen Angels Entering Pandemonium, painted in 1841 is one of my favourite oil painting. I’m a sucker for old religious paintings with a dark touch. I came across this for the first time when it was cover art on the ”Angel Witch” LP from 1980, but it’s probably best known from John Milton’s book […]
I got to be honost, I’m a photo person and in my home I only have one painting, the rest are photographs. Usually when and if I think about getting a painting I look at medival art and usually their depiction of hell, the black plague or something dark. The first time I saw ”Siesta” […]
What could be more beautiful in the world than the naked female body? I can answer that … NOTHING! It’s beauty that makes you feel alive, beauty that can’t be described, beauty that almost hurts. So watching a video like this is for me meditation and enjoying mother earths art. It has nothing to do with marginalize women to just objects, you can and must respect women to the fullest. Men who tend to degrade women by calling them names, should we as often as possible call out and make them shut up!
