It was only seven shows in seven days in 1989. But it will never be forgotten. Four of the best death metal and grindcore bands in the world, united by the leading extreme metal record label at the time, Earache. The Grindcrusher Tour was more than just a brief tour organized by Earache Records that started […]

9/10 … The American Chicago based band Macabre, famous for only making songs about true-life criminals/serial killers. They really have their own unique sound, mixing Thrash, Grind, Death and some ompha-bompa. They call it Murder Music.
”Dahmer” is a concept album about Jeffrey Dahmer, and only Jeffrey Dahmer. The songs comprise a biography of the life of Jeffrey Dahmer; therefore they are in chronological order ….
9/10 … The first wave of “Swedish Death Metal” came from Stockholm (again, not to be confused with the Gothenburg sound from Swedens other coast), and consisted of the bands Carnage, Morbid and Nihilist, who fragmented later into Entombed, Dismember and Unleashed. Many of these bands used the trademark Tomas Skogsberg/Sunlight Studios “buzzsaw” guitar tone. It was created by using heavily detuned electric guitars (usually C# standard or lower), a maxed out Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal pedal (see YouTube video at the bottom of this page), sometimes in combination with a single guitar through a Boss DS-1 Distortion pedal. The originator of this guitar sound was Nihilist guitarist Leffe Cuzner, though it was evolved and altered over the years.
9/10 … The eerie opening of the first track “Reek of Putrefaction” sets the mode before all hells breaks loose … just jawdropping. ”Exhumed to Consume” is up next with the immortal opening lines “Grimly I dig up the turfs, To remove the corrupted stiffs, Trying to contain my excitement, As I desecrate graveolent crypts”, and we are of on a FANTASTIC journey to a depraved persons mind. “Symphonies of Sickness” couldn’t be a more appropiate title for this work of filth. We then get a couple of mid-tempo pieces in the middle before finishing off with some filthy brutal stuff. It just have to be experienced.
9/10 … but to me the music in itself and the lyrics reached the top here. The anger over injustices and politicians abusing power theme goes throughout the whole album.
