“Join me in my search for power
Wives and husbands bring your kin
We’ll be as one within the hour
Let the Sabbat now begin

Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there”

In the 1970’s Satanism and Witchcraft had found its way into contemporary culture and branches of witchcraft have found their way into fashion, music, books and magazines, as well as mainstream television and cinema with movies such as The Wicker Man and Blood on Satan’s Claw. Magic practices and elements of witchcraft began to trickle into the mainstream narrative, lifting the witch out of the underground in the “occult explosion” of the 1970s. The exhaustive writings of eminent English occultist Aleister Crowley, who advocated the Thelemite religion, became prevalent at the time, and similar figureheads of witchcraft and other strands of the occult found their way onto daytime television and BBC documentaries.

Black Widow, a British rock band that was formed in Leicester, England in September 1969. On account of their early use of satanic and occult imagery (including the symbolic sacrifice of a nude virgin on stage), the media regularly drew parallels with another act, the today much more known band Black Sabbath.

“Come to the Sabbath”

Help me in my search for knowledge
I must learn the secret art
Who dares to help me raise the one
Whose very name sears my heart
Astaroth

Discard your clothes and come on foot
Through streams and fields and moonlit moors
Your body soaked in secret oils
Perfumed herbs will heal your sores

Join me in my search for power
Wives and husbands bring your kin
We’ll be as one within the hour
Let the Sabbat now begin

Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
Come, come, come to the Sabbat
Come to the Sabbat, Satan’s there
