When “The Big Four” took over Gothenburg, Sweden, the influx of spectators was as total as the dominance of the four bands on the thrash metal scene.
Die-hard metal fans booked tickets early on for this year’s biggest metal event in Sweden – “The Big Fours” at Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden on Sunday, the 3rd of July 2011. Nearly 56,000 people saw Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica’s gigs on site in Gothenburg.
Significantly more people watched the concerts on television.
The whole thing was shown on Swedish national TV. The thrash metal marathon broadcast was a great audience success. The first part, with live performances of Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer was watched by 298,000 people. For the Metallica gig the number doubled – 597,000 people sat down to watch and hear the thrash metal giants end the evening.
