The vacationers at a winter wonderland struggle to survive after an avalanche of snow crashes into their ski resort. Their holiday then turns into a game of survival.
I don’t know why this one is so disliked by most people (only 3,7 on Imdb), I personally had a real good time with it. I mean it’s a Roger Corman production, then you know what you’re going to get. Plastic snow, people not reacting to the thunder of the avalanche until 2 seconds before they get hit, nudity, post-avalanche victims have their hairstyle totally intact as if nothing had happened, not a bruise as far as the eye could see … what’s not to like? 😂
Although Rock Hudson and Mia Farrow are in this one, to me the star is Robert Forster (Jackie Brown, Delta Force, Mulholland Drive). I find him extremely charismatic and has a warmth to his character.
It was filmed in Durango, Colorado, USA.
During filming, the special effects crew used Styrofoam to augment the “snow effects” of the avalanche. Once the spring thaw hit, Stryrofoam was discovered all over the Durango. By then, the company was long gone.
This box-office failure was one of New World Pictures’ most expensive productions. This film was sold to network television for $2 million.
I watched this on Amazon Prime and both sound and picture quality was okey, but I hope for a great Blu-Ray soon with a 2k or 4k scan and some great making-of documentary. There is one out from Scorpion Releasing but I don’t know what transfer and it looks pretty bare bones.
