Art of Self-Defense (Comedy) [Movie/Review]

After he’s attacked on the street at night by a roving motorcycle gang, timid bookkeeper Casey (Jesse Eisenberg) joins a neighborhood karate studio to learn how to protect himself. Under the watchful eye of a charismatic instructor, Sensei (Alessandro Nivola), and hardcore brown belt Anna (Imogen Poots), Casey gains a newfound sense of confidence for the first time in his life.

So another Mr. Eisenberg movie, this one didn’t sound that inriguing when I read the storyline, I mean what can happen at a Karate school, he gets good at it!? … but holy f*’k was I wrong. But since I personally hate spoilers, and never even watch trailers. I will not tell you more, but be sure, things take a turn.

Jesse plays a timid bookkeeper, but could well be more or less autistic, but on the other hand so could the only girl in the karate club, Anna (Imogen Poots) and they both do it brilliantly. Sensei (Alessandro Nivola), also do a great job and he has several different thoughts about how to be a man, for example, have a German dog, speak German and of course ”you must listen to metal, its the hardest music there is” .. as he says 😂

Yes, this was awesome! It could actually be my movie of the year together with ”Midsommar”. I love original stories, just originality can put a movie from 7/10 to 9/10 in my book, and that’s what happened here. I can’t wait for the blu-ray to come out so I can watch it again.
