Slumber Party Massacre (1982)
A high school student’s slumber party turns terrifying as an escaped mental patient with a drill decides to crash the evening.
It makes me happy just to see the opening scene with a 1980’s Los Angeles and a paperboy doing his route. It was shot on different locations around Los Angeles, mainly around Santa Monica and you really get that early 1980’s vibe.
Pretty soon into the movie we get the main character waking up in her bedroom changing clothes, and more or less right after that the famous shower scene, where the camera lingering on the girls asses for probably too long :-), and it all feels particularly funny since it’s a female director, Amy Jones.
So this is a slasher classic, what makes this go a bit out of the ordinary is that it had a female director and we get the identity of the killer more or less at once.
Unfortunately, there are too many offspring kills, except for a drill scene and the scenes at the end. And in slasher movies I can take a lot of illogical things, but what really annoys me is when the victims have 0% survival instinct and just stands there waiting to be killed. So this could have been a 9/10 if they added more effects and a masked killer.
Slumber Party Massacre II (1987)
Courtney Bates, the younger sister of Valerie, and her friends go to their condo for a weekend getaway, but Courtney can’t get rid of the haunting feeling that a supernatural rockabilly driller killer is coming to murder them all.
What the hell is this? This could be the worst slasher ever!!! I had never seen this one before and 20 minutes in I thought about pressing the stop button, because you know … life’s too short. But decided to finish it, a decision I now regret.
This one also had a female director, Deborah Brock, who only directed four movies and some TV episodes. That anyone hired her after this train wreck is a mystery.
Courtney (now another actress) plays the younger sister to Valerie from the first movie. T.J (Joel Hoffman) one of the ”cool” dudes could be the worst actor ever. Was he the directors sister-in-law or something, what is he doing in here?
We get some kind of music video performance of some generic pop song. More or less no nudity or gore, pink drumsticks and a f**kin singing rockabilly dude, that could be the least scary killer in movie history. AVOID!
Slumber Party Massacre III (1990)
Jackie Cassidy and her friends are stalked by a serial killer while having a slumber party.
This one at least tries to throw us off track in the beginning to who the killer is by showing several “strange” guys. We also get kind of a death by an electric dildo … but not in the way you think 🙂 . Otherwise kind of a standard slasher with the same concept as the first two, same weapon and same storyline of a bunch of girls having a slumber party, some guys come over … and then the killer!
Okay, but not really more than that. Some gore and violence!
So to sum the whole series up, we get highs and looooows! But it’s slashers of the 80’s, so what’s not to love. avoid part two, the first one is mandatory slasher history and the third is okay. This whole series I think would have been better if there was more variety to the killing methods and if the killer was masked and we didn’t see his identity more or less at once in every movie… and if part two was never made 😉
